Cycle Routes

Satisfy your thirst for discovery and adventure on one of Connemara’s Cycle Loops. Cruise gently along the bog road, discover secluded beaches and simply breathe the fresh sea air. Starting in the delightful market town of Clifden, this is the perfect way to explore one of the Wild Atlantic Way’s most scenic areas. Against the breathtaking backdrop of the Twelve Bens and with the tranquil coastline at your side, you might even catch a glimpse of the wild seals and leaping dolphins out at sea.

Kylemore Abbey

Maam

Maam village lies between the Maamturk mountains  to the south west and Bunacuneen is its northern boundary.

Maamcross

 Lies as the crossroads north to Maam south to Rosmuc west to Clifden.

Barna

Barna (Bearna in Irish) is a coastal village on the R336 regional road in Connemara, County Galway, Ireland.



Spiddle

Spiddal, also known as Spiddle is a village on the shore of Galway Bay in County Galway, Ireland. It is 18 kilometers (11 mi) west of Galway city,

Inverin

Inverin is a Gaeltacht village between Baile na hAbhann and Minna in County Galway, Ireland.

Costelloe

Casla (Costello or Costelloe) is a Gaeltacht village between Indreabhán (Inverin) and An Cheathrú Rua (Carraroe) and is home to TG4 and Radio Na Gaeltachta.

Patrick Pearse Cottage 

In Rosmuc, Co. Galway. The cottage was a summer retreat for the writer and poet Patrick Pearse for 12 years, from 1903 to 1915. It was here that he drew inspiration for his poems.

This area is a must, wonderful walks along the river, a scenic stretch of the Connemara Greenway. Lakes and rivers with the 12 Bens Mountain range as a backdrop.

Cashel:

 A Connemara seaside village with an amazing coastal cycling or drive - Go Hill-Walking on Cashel hill for splendid views of the Connemara Coastline.

Roundstone

A purpose built fishing village, with the backdrop of the 12 Bens mountain range. Just 1km from wonderfully scenic beaches Gurteen Beach and Dogs Bay.

Ballyconneely

A traditional holiday favorite for domestic and international visitors, Ballyconneely is home to the Connemara Championship Golf Links

Bunowen Bay Discovery Site

On the eastern side of the Slyne Head promontory is Bunowen Bay, a small, sheltered beach with crystal clear waters.

Not far from the beach is a small harbor, On the other side of the promontory is Connemara Golf Club.

Derrigimlagh Discovery Site

Derrigimlagh Bog is one of the Signature Discovery Points of the Wild Atlantic Way. It is a uniquely beautiful area of blanket peat bog but also as the scene of two significant events in international travel and communications history. Marconi’s first transatlantic radio signal in 1907. John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown in 1919 on the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic.

N59 Cycle Path

An extension of the Greenway this very scenic path is very popular for an evening cycle or stroll along the Derrylea Lake

Inagh Valley 

Turn on to the R344, which takes you through the Inagh Valley. Meandering past Lough Inagh, the Twelve Bens are to the left, with the Maum Turk mountain range to the right. This is a stunningly beautiful scenic route.

The Lettermore-Lettermullen Peninsula

 Comprises interconnected small islands connected by the R374 roadway. This winding route navigates through rugged terrain and patches of Atlantic seawater, guiding travelers from Lettermore to Lettermullan.

Derroura

It is a circular way marked loop of around 16km with a little over 13km on single track. Parts of the trail are technical, steep and rocky.
