Clifden Bike Shop – Welcomes Stage 2 of  Rás Tailteann: International Bike Race

The 70th edition of the Rás Tailteann an International Bike Race is set to take place from May 21st to May 25th, 2025, bringing with it a rich history of fierce competition and unforgettable moments. This year’s race holds special significance as we celebrate seven decades of Ireland’s most iconic cycling event. Here at Clifden Bike Shop, we’re especially excited for Stage 2, which finishes right here in Clifden on May 22nd. It’s been over 20 years since the Rás last ended a stage in our town, and we can’t wait to welcome the riders, teams, and cycling fans for what promises to be a thrilling finish. Whether you’re a lifelong supporter of the race or discovering the magic of the Rás for the first time, this is your chance to witness the ‘Men of the Rás’ in action. We encourage everyone with a passion for cycling to come out, line the roads, and cheer on these incredible athletes as they battle through Connemara’s stunning but punishing terrain.

 Route:

The riders will set off from Charlestown, Co. Mayo, tackling a gruelling route through Bohola, Castlebar, Partry, and the rugged beauty of Connemara before crossing the finish line in Clifden. It’s going to be a punishing day in the saddle, with five categorised climbs testing the riders’ legs. The infamous Windy Gap (Category 1) awaits after just 50KM, followed by a fast descent into Castlebar and onto Partry. Then comes a brutal stretch of climbing in quick succession—Tuar Mhic Éadaigh (Cat 3), Maumtrasna (Cat 2), and Cill Dubh (Cat 2)—guaranteed to shake up the peloton. Just when they think the worst is over, a final Category 3 climb between An Mám and Maam Cross stands between them and the 40KM push to Clifden, where the open roads of Connemara will set the stage for a thrilling finale. For cycling fans in Clifden this International Bike Race, is a moment not to be missed! Expect a fast, aggressive race, with breakaways forming early and GC contenders looking to stamp their authority. The atmosphere at the finish will be electric as we welcome the riders into town.
